Quilt Valuations

WHY HAVE A QUILT VALUED?
Many people like to insure their valuables, because of the risk of loss damage or theft. A Certificate of Valuation authenticates a quilt's worth for insurance purposes.

<
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Valuation dates are scheduled ahead and dates are advertised in the Darwin Patchworkers & Quilters monthly newsletter. All quilts accepted for a particular day are valued on that day and returned to the owners as quickly as possible.

THE VALUATION PROCESS
The valuation is made by a team of Valuers who give an objective assessment. Sentiment to the owner has no place in quilt valuation. The number of hours taken to make a quilt is not a criterion in itself - although the time taken may be reflected in the quality of workmanship. In the interests of objectivity and impartiality, quilts are not valued in the presence of the owner/maker. Close scrutiny is given to the quilt and an assessment made based on the following criteria:

    • Design and artistic merit impact - traditional and original designs
    • Quality of work
    • Quality of materials
    • Condition
    • Degree of rarity
    • Suitability for purpose
    • Size
The monetary value assigned to the quilt is based on its current market value. In certain circumstances the Panel may not be able to put a monetary value on a quilt, and in this case the fee would be refunded. A written Valuation Certificate is issued, signed and dated by the Valuers who valued the quilt. Valuation assessments remain with the Valuation Panel Convenor in complete confidentiality.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
$15.00 - for members of Darwin Patchworkers & Quilters Inc.
$40.00 - for non-members
$30.00 - fast track - for DPAQ members unable to wait for the scheduled Valuation Day.
