Australia Day 2006

Bargello with Marianne Reilly

Dress in red, white and blue (or green & gold) 18 ladies gathered together on Australia Day for a Bargello with Marianne. Marianne had designed a bargello using 12 fabrics which could be finished in a day – well sounded good!

Many emails were swapped between the tutor and participants to ensure that everyone had cut and arranged their fabrics in order to get off and running first thing. A couple of the girls still had cutting to do but the others got sewing straight away. Sue was the first to get 6 rows up on the wall, closely followed by Judy.

The 2 over achievers, Rose and Dianne had decided to do the full bargello – yes to end up with a King size of course. Lyn had her own pattern and was giving these girls a run of their money – is their anything bigger than king – if there is then that’s what Lyn was making.

Barb had everyone reaching into their purses for coins with the Dutch raffle – Rose ended up the winner and received a lovely bag of Australian fabrics to add to her stash. Our knowledge was put to the test with the Australiana Quiz that Beetle who had his 22 nd birthday in Sydney?

We all hesitantly stopped for lunch, which was some Aussie favourites – pies, sausage rolls and quiches with pav for dessert. YUM.

The colour ranges were amazing, - Pat opted for black and white, Jeannine went for autumn tones and Jane used purple and green. Can’t wait to see them all at the February meeting.

Many thanks to Marianne for the fantastic job she did putting the pattern together along with the instructions, and also for liaising with everyone to ensure they had a handle on things prior to the workshop
